Yes, that helps immensely. Until now, I couldn't help noticing that we hadn't actually been told that one tells the truth and that the other lies, just that one either lies or tells the truth. As Loran points out, the old solution works with this. 

A little paranoid of me, perhaps, but I recall an old Stormbringer scenario in which speaking "friend" to the old "Speak, friend, and enter" riddle results in being dropped down a pit!
