Scene 125: The Land of the Ghosts

Dressed in the pomp and regalia that would be befitting the most serious
ambassadors of the city-states of Safelster, the rump Fellowship marched
obviously through Puppettown dressed in the brightest of colours, hats
that looked like squashed pies, various tassles and robes, and most
importantly carrying a large banner proclaiming them to be diplomats of
The General (for Azhur convinced the stern soldier that they were on an
official mission). Azhur also carried, as always, the Red Banner of Honour
- as the Kalen puppet carried the banner for The General.

Many of the inhabitants of Puppettown came out to see the spectacle. The
clever ears of the Dragonewt was able to pick up snippets of conversation;
some people were astounded that the foreigners were being given such a
role, others desparately hoping that there might be the possibility of
peace between The General and The Magician, but most were confused and
suspicious. Nevertheless the "diplomats" continued on their way as the
Puppets went about their business, trying to make do the best they could
in conditions of war, with a curfew in place and will the ever present
iron soldiers of The General.

One puppet who does make their way to talk to the Fellowship is Zifu, who
originally saved the group from The General. Leading them to what would be
the center of town, she stops at a great wooden palisade which divides
Puppetown in two. "Over the wall", she says, "Is the realm of The
Magician. It is a land of howling spirits and of madness".
