Scene 123: Shutdown of the Kalen System

Jareena looks quizzically at the broken and still body of the Mostal.
"They are so... unlike us", she mutters. Making the slow chant of her
people over the body of the Dwarf she shakes her head at the difficulty in
raising the healing magics of such an alien being. "There is no flesh or
wood here. It's like trying to heal a broken stone."

A flicker of light then appeared at the Dwarf's eyes. Jareena beamed. "But
there is spirit in there. And I can touch that."

[Roll 6 against Prevent Dying 17 - 10 for very alien species, success.
Roll 20 for death at 14, fumble! A major victory for Jareena!]

Kalen began to speak in the mechanical tone that the Fellowship had become
familiar with. But this time the communication was strange, to say the
least.

"0x1BADB002, input output error, cyclic redundancy check failure, core
dump, oops, kernel panic, 0xFEE1DEAD"

For his part Rikku attempst to heal Kalen as well, with his knowledge of
magic. However critically forgetting the allergic reaction that the metal
people have to the fertility rune, he manages to make matters worse as a
fungul growth began to sprout on Kalen's damaged tubes. Kalen starts to
let out a high-pitched screetching sound.

(Roll 9, from First Aid 16 - 3 = 13, marginal success. Roll 1 for wound,
critical success. Marginal success for wound, increases wound to "dying"
again.)

"0xD15EA5E! 0xD15EA5E! 0x8BADF00D! 0x8BADF00D!"

At this point Rotterex, on little more than a wing and a prayer, pressed
the button on Kalen's back. There was a bried sigh, and Kalen sighed:
"Restart required. The Kalen system is shutting down. Shutdown -r now".
