Scene 116: Peace in Our Time

The journey to the large city of Laonan Tao, where Kui Hui The Giant
Hero resided, took some weeks as the size of the Emperor's Army was
large and the landscape was heavily populated. Indeed, for many of the
Fellowship the sheer number of people was remarkable. The first two days
were lightly populated with woodlands surrounding. On occasion the ever
vigilant Jareena swore that she caught the sound of wolves howling in
the night.

Azhur remained troubled; after he left the Black Fort, a note was
discovered in his belongings: "You are with us, and we are with you.
YF", the implication being all to clear.

[OOC]
Could Azhur seeks advices from the Red Banner here ?

The Seeker was also stopped as
he left by a man claiming to be a Godunya priest who said how pleased he
would be to receive a donation from one about to reach their next
incarnation, especially when it can be forwarded to the impoverished
temple in Lei Tabor.

Attention was drawn, of course, to the Mostal Kalen and his new
companion, who introduced himself as Guillarme Rotterex, a being which
seemed to be ... at least part human. Kalen's explanation of the
transformation surprised his companions, and of course intrigued General
Han Sui to discover that he had such transformational equipment under
his castle. Kalen of course made the point that it's use would turn two
warriors into one - which caused the General to lose much interest in
the device.

[OOC]
Would the new warrior worth two normal warriors ? (so it may achieve a double
valued army eating only as one valued) or does the operation creates synergistic
augmentation between the two ? (e.g;: one part sleeps inside, while the other
part walks...)

Only Rikku seemed to be relatively undisturbed by external events. There
was no howling wolves, no notes, no demanding priests, no strange
companions. But none could not notice how much time he was spending in
quiet contemplation. When Azhur raised this issue with him, Rikku simply
remarked "My brother awaits", and send no more.

What surprised the Fellowship - all the Fellowship - was the sheer
quantity of people in the days to come. Every single square inch of
ground had been turned into fields for rice. The climate was very wet,
the ground muddy and every few hours there seemed to be a new village or
town. As they approached Laonan Tao, rumours increased of massed
supporters of the Godunya would be found in the city.

Certainly sabotage being a daily event. Wheels fell off wagons, horses
lost their shoes. Food seemed to be infected with malign spirits, giving
many of even the greatest soldiers illness and watery bottoms. Many of
the soldiers began to grow angry, arguing that they should simply lay
the land to waste and kill the peasantry who were clearly in league with
the rebels (their use of the term 'rebels' was apparently without
irony).

"What say you?", demanded the New Emperor. "You say you want to offer
this giant peace and that this will conquer him. Well, I want details
now. My men are restless, and they seek revenge and victory. After this
we go north to crush the Kingdom of Ignorance. But first, what are you
going to do?"
