Scene 118: Kui Hui, The Giant Hero


As agreed with the Emperor Exarch Seven Dragon and Wisdom, members of
the Fellowship left behind the mighty army and headed towards the city
of Laonan Tao. Across the flat rice fields, an army of sorts could be
seen outside the city walls apparently standing ready in defense against
the Emperor's forces. As the Fellowship force approached, it seemed that
the surprisingly small Laonan Tao army consisted entirely of peasant
militia, excepting a few score dragonnewts, although they were clearly
led by a giant of a man who rode a massive horse that was three times
the heigh of any man, excepting of course, the rider itself.

As the Fellowship approached there was not even a murmur from the
assembled forces of Laonan Tao, who stared directly at the Fellowship,
their eyes unflinching. Nor was there a call from any bird or even a
chirping of a cricket from among the moist fields. At two hundred paces
distance, the ever observant Jareena turned to Azhur in a low voice.
"Those peasants.. the pikes that they are carrying; they have no blade".
Once it was pointed out, Azhur too could notice this. Outnumbered three
to one at least, unarmoured, these peasant militia carried no weapon
other than long sticks.

Still they made no sound, and no sound could be heard from them. And the
Fellowship continued. Then, at one hundred paces distance, the mounted
giant raised his right hand. "Stop!", he cried in a voice that carried
across the fields, "I am Kui Hui, and you will stop moving. I protected
this city from the invading army of Sheng Seleris and, due to the powers
granted to me, I will protect it from the invading army the Exarch Seven
Dragon and Wisdom, Imperial Usurper".

"Yeah? And what if we won't stop?", blurted out a shouting Rikku before
anyone else could speak. The Godlearner took three steps forward, and a
warm red glow could be seen around Kui Hui's hand, and a wall of similar
hue sprung up in front of the Fellowship. The Godlearner fell mid-step,
as he struck the barrier.

"That was not a request."

"Now, leave strange foreigners, go back to the Exarch and tell him to
leave Laonan Tao, that we are loyal to Godunya, the Dragon Emperor, and
that Kui Hui, defeater of the lobster demon, protects this city".
