In tune with my character's general state of mind may I point out that 
reaching the Bat is trivially simple. Simply walk in its direction 
looking like an Orlanthi and wait for one of its tongues/tentacles to 
reach you.

Reaching it and surviving to tell the tale is another matter entirely.

I suspect there are fanatics amongst the Heortlings who would not worry 
too much about this aspect of the problem - I'd check out the Uroxi 
first. In theory you could fight off the tongue with the axe (resist its 
tongue/tentacle attack with Axe skill?) but once the Bat goes berserk 
the only hope would be that it concentrates on the annoying priests on 
its back long enough to make an escape. Its not *quite* a suicide 
mission ;-)
