Assessing the tactical situation, Azhur proposed a plan to the group:
- “The first times the wolves-pirates stroke Loskalm, their longships made the difference. Being able to depart fast, they were able to leave the shore before the loskalmi army could do anything to stop them, but before a new navy was built to protect our shore, Sir Eugen of the Sparrow’s Order had defined a quite successful tactic to deal with them. Instead of trying to fight them on the shore, the trick was to find a way to lure them deeper inland and then to cut the way between the raiders and their boats…”
The former knight made a pause to be sure that everyone was following his explanation and then continued:
- “They probably have spotted us. They are coming with the wind in their back, so they will be here quite soon but if I have understood a little the art of sailing, they will have to navigate against it if they want to leave the shore… this situation will probably push them to fight if they have a chance to win instead of taking the sea at the first risk and waiting for a better occasion. The price for leaving the shore being quite high…”
Azhur detailed then his plan:
- “ Let’s give them a good reason to follow some of us inland, we just need to lure them away. Some will stay to keep the boats. We will oppose them on the shore and then catch the rest inland while the boat are ours.”
Evaluating his own military forces, he proposed some roles:
- “Othor, Aarolin and me, as mounted knights, can be the main force that will sweep the shore from this criminals. Some good archers could make a convenient reinforcement making sure that nobody would escape with a longship.
- “Obviously Serendipitous Seeker knows the island and can quite safely guide the most vulnerable of us into luring the pirates away, dividing their forces, using the battle ground against them… and perhaps find help from his own people ?
Azhur paused as his reasoning was proressing as he was talking:
- “What we just need then is a good bait. Let me think… “
Azhur looked back to the coming ships, trying to estimate the distance with them and the time they have before their arrival, guessing also when their enemies will be able to observe enough details to have their cupidity riding them over their reason.
Embarrassed by the idea he just found, he tried it anyway:
- “Serendipitous Seeker, I don’t know how dragonewts are good at pretending and being actors and we have no time to know us better, but will you accept to fake the donation of some precious goods from a group of western people to a dragonewt ? If we put this keg of fresh water in this blanket there and if I use the seshnelan gold pieces from my purse to make some goldish glitters in the sun, it can easily appears as a keg full of gold coins. Don’t tell me that your people don’t have any use for gold, I suspect the pirates to have enough imagination to find any valuable reason…“
Hoping that the draconian was able to understand his sophisticated proposal, he concluded:
- “You just have to make some very very visible invitation to us to follow you and we all retreat inland, bearing the keg of gold coins with us. If the pirates are caught by our theatre demonstration, some will follow, if not we will be in a safer position to defend us anyway… We then just walk to the grazing place where are our horses. The group who volunteered for the battle on the shore goes then back to the shore by an other way, trying to leave minimal tracks behind, but my hope will be that the pirates will attracted by the dragonewt’s tracks because the keg will be normally with him. Serendipitous Seeker and the rest of us look for a good ambush place or a safe shelter if too heavily outnumbered.”
- “I know it is a little bit complicated and I’m ready to hear any other plan if it appears to be more successful, but remember we haven’t so much time for discussion.’”

Mild westerly wind, which is the direction they are approaching from.
They'll be getting into longboats to make their way to actual shore.
