So if she has elves with her, they will take sufficient robes that
they appear, from a distance, like the enemy. She is also going to
select the smallest set of wizard robes for Tanuki.

Okay. If she doesn't have elves with her, she might go along the river.

The first objective would be to penetrate into the enemy's lines to
some degree, to see how they are doing. If they are broadly speaking
in confusion, she will work her way in the general direction of the
city where things might be going on. She will try to disrupt
communications on the way, if these exist.

You know, Robin Hood type stuff.
