That only applies to their home forest (HQ p212).
Whilst for some of them it may become their home
eventually, atthe moment they are relatively
unfamiliar with the lay of the land here and nor do
they have the spiritual connection of having their
roots here.

They were using bows; the Elves with Icthya are rated
8W with bows, these guys are a bit lower - as
skirmishers their bonus points went into Camouflage,
Stealth and Move Quickly in Forest. Aalmon's augments
went into morale. Normally you wouldn't find Aldryami
doing what you who wanted them to.

Sure, all other things being equal. But in this case,
as you pointed out, the Elves have weapons (arrows)
which are largely ineffective against opponents
(skeletons and zombies) who outnumber them umm..
18,000 zombies and skeletons to 1,500 Aldryami.. and
perhaps worst of all, opponents who don't check
morale. They just kept coming, and coming, and
coming...
