Scene 45: Kalen and the Construction of the Deu Dam

Kalen releases the bazak* with note attached and it
heads quickly back towards the thrice-walled city
Seguarane. Upon Icthya's request the stone man then
travels to the Deu River where he witnesses her
strange discussion with the spirit of the water.

Kalen is somewhat perplexed, although impressed. It
would seem that the pot-plant desires to dam the
river. This is of course brings much delight to Kalen,
who immediately starts to think of places where a
cobblestone path could be installed, perhaps alongsode
to some perfectly trimmed hedges leading to a
fountain, and dare he dream, an articulated water
system!

For Icthya however such stonemasonry and garden design
is far from her mind. She emphasises that time is of
the essence and that the building of a damn to stop
the mighty Deu River is over primary importance. Worse
still there is less than two crossings of Yelm's
journey to complete it. Can Kalen somehow somehow
contact the engineers in the Iron Mountains, so many
leagues further west within this time? Can the dam be
built, with or without their help?
